Thoughts from my three years at uni...

Hello :)

I thought I'd try something different this week. As I've had three years now at university I thought I'd share some of what I've experienced and do a little reflecting on my time at uni and what I'm going to miss the most. So yes, this may be a bit soppy.

These three years have been a whirlwind of meeting new people, performing, learning and growing (sadly not literally). It may sound cheesy but they honestly have been the best three years of my life, and yes that's even with all the stress.

I'll miss turning up and seeing everyone waiting for lecture. Even if it is at 9am on a Monday morning, seeing all the lovely faces of my friends on my uni course (not just my year though... all the years) makes it bearable. I really hope that I keep in touch with everyone after we've all gone our separate ways. Because I would hate to lose touch with them all. In life there are people who love different things to you, and that's ok it's what makes us so individually special, but I have found a place where I finally seem to fit in. I am around like-minded people who are just as passionate about music as I am.

Then there's the accessibility to some wonderful rooms and equipment at uni, that we can book out at any time. I'll miss being able to work with people and just jamming in the rehearsal rooms whenever we feel like it. The opportunities you get with uni are amazing!

University has been one of the most challenging but valuable times in life, with so much going on yet so much enjoyment. Getting to spend three years gigging, improving, practicing and networking has been an experience to say the least, but some of the most exciting moments have happened to me whilst being at university; meeting some first class musicians, working with said musicians, performing at some great places and learning and taking in so much.

I would encourage anyone who has the time and opportunity, to go to university. Attending uni has helped improve my confidence and my social skills an awful lot, and it has also opened up many areas for me as well.

The only thing I would recommend is to make the most of being at uni, attend the parties, take up the offers of going out, make friends, enjoy it, but also make sure to work (yes, put in the hours for assessments) as the chance may not come around again.

Love,

Emma :)
